I have always been interested in personal, health and spiritual development and how interlinked they have proven. From being given my first Elle MacPherson book at 12, I thumbed over the pages, reading every page with great delight, to joining a Shinnyo-en Buddhist temple whilst living in Hong Kong and learning the practices of clearing the mind. When I lost somewhat of myself, I lost a lot of faith, I lost my path and my health suffered as a consequence. I have seen the power of the mind (and yoga with meditation) to bring us back from the edges, piece us back together in a more conscious, even greater and loving way than before… than you could even imagine. I know these life challenges and stories are meant to happen to grow and heal and learn. Or are they? I had more than my fair share of limiting beliefs, a girl brought up in the UK during the 1990’s in what was a well-established man’s world. Sure there was ‘girl power’ of the Spice Girls in the mid-90s and the ladette drinking culture, to level up to the man’s world. There were definitely less opportunities to me than my male counterparts, I had been treated differently at most stages throughout my life, spoken over at countless occasions, put in my place, to look pretty and not to worry myself with issues, not to be too bold, not to be too attractive, not to dream too big, not to dress certain ways, the list can go on. I don’t know why I would think after getting a degree things would be different. It was only when I got the opportunity to move to Hong Kong for work, did I really think about how I was treated at home in comparison. Hong Kong is of course not an equal society, far from it in fact, but being an expat certainly granted you some of the airs and graces that men experience and some situations of hilarity in that!
It was upon my return to the UK my limiting beliefs started really coming into play and actually affecting my life. Feeling rather powerless in many situations, over worked, sometimes I didn’t see daylight, except for a quick dash to the coffee shop, over-stressed and under-appreciated, especially in regards to equal pay and desperate for change. I knew no-one was going to help me. So I had to make some decisions to grant the time needed for the growth so change could happen. I left my independence and moved home, to the comfort and safety of my parents, what a relief… I needed to get my shit together!
Since then, I have been on a massive journey, and continue to be… It was an upheaval I wasn’t particularly ready for. Some mild depression, a real re-discovery and re-defining of myself, I grew up (Ahhhhh) and though I tried to escape everything for many years, I faced myself, greeted my soul and planted my feet into the soil with my arms still swaying in the breeze. During this time, as part of my self -rediscovery I tried Psych-K®️ and was very impressed by the techniques. It is pretty woo woo, i’m warning you... but wonderful all the same. I am quite open-minded so that helped tremendously, but the difference after one session for my confidence was amazing.
I had already read Melissa Ambrosini’s book Mastering Your Mean Girl that really helped silence the critic in my head. My ‘mean girl’ aka self talk was horrible, hence the touch of depression, i’m a generally upbeat person, so takes a lot to drag myself down. I started to re-work my life, re-opened The Life Plan, and discovered my faith (not in a religious way, but faith in myself) as I began to get back on track, creative and free, a whole life re-set, leaving the stressful life of 9 to 9 pm or later! Working in such a fast paced, non-caring and competitive environment, such as fashion, was great for the ego but not so great for the soul.
Peter from The Health Quest introduced me to Psych-K and it’s transformative effects during this time. To be more specific, the sessions include communicating with the Higher-Self directly using muscle testing to confirm the safety and wisdom of making the desired change. The subconscious mind of the participant chooses the appropriate Psych-K®️ process to make the change. It isn’t up to the facilitator to “guess” what will work. And, several ‘Balances’ are used to the give the subconscious a variety of “tools” to pick from. You can’t build a house with just a hammer and people are more complicated than houses!
Using Muscle Testing to communicate directly with the super-conscious and subconscious minds. No guess work is on the part of the facilitator. These exercises directs the subconscious toward a specific goal, rather than just getting rid of unwanted behaviors or physical symptoms. A process to clearly define the desired goal to the subconscious, in a language the brain can understand. Most “affirmations and goals” are too abstract to be truly taken on board.
Psych-K®️ deals with causes, not just imbalances in the energy system of the person. You don’t have to consciously know what caused a problem to change. It doesn’t depend on re-experiencing pain from the past to change the present.
Beliefs usually change in a matter of minutes. I remember during my first session, discovering the plethora of sub-conscious and deep-seeded beliefs that I had, seeing how they had impacted my life and being quite shocked at just how many I had in the first place! The feeling of coming away from my session, a little lighter through my shoulders and more confident in myself, after connecting to my whole self and higher self. My yoga practice improved, I was more dedicated, my focus was back and I could really see how a course of sessions could help alongside or even instead of coaching. I will have to see after a few more sessions if my beliefs have gone, but feeling lighter in my thoughts is a big deal!
