Curatorial Statement

Tenderness is an immersive, tactile inquiry into the heart’s inner architecture. Rooted in enduring themes of kinship and communal belonging, the work explores how we might move beyond self-protection and into genuine emotional connection. It suggests that our deepest human bonds are formed not through guarded strength, but through the courage to lower our defences and meet one another with openness.

Visually, this inner evolution unfolds through a richly sculpted surface built with impasto palette-knife gestures and diaphanous layers of pigment. At the centre of the canvas, incandescent clusters of crimson, vermilion, and radiant magenta pulse with raw, primal warmth—evoking the communal hearth, the shared pulse of humanity, and the intense heat of emotional truth. This kinetic fire is gently embraced by an ethereal field of soft blush, rose, and fractured light, allowing intensity to dissolve into quiet grace.

The work honours tenderness not as weakness, but as a transformative force: a way of softening division, sustaining our shared humanity, and helping to save the human soul.

Abstract expressionist painter K A Treble creates large‑scale, expressionist artworks that explore the emotional and spiritual power of colour and mark‑making, painting riotus, elemental and textural canvases in a deeply physical process.

Working primarily in oil, she builds and erodes layers over time, revealing hidden textures and stories beneath the surface, using the palette knife to carve stories and etchings into the canvas. Her work brims with gestures and textures—inspired from modernist masters. It may feel familiar at first, but it will leave you feeling hit by something urgent and new. Based in the south-east of England in the Surrey Hills, she is inspired deeply by the surrounding nature, light, colour, movement and energy.
