Abstract Expressionist Artist

K A Treble

Treble’s practice is rooted in the emotive and transformative potential of abstraction. Working primarily with large-scale colour fields, she employs thickly applied oil paint, intuitive mark-making, and a visceral engagement with the canvas to explore the spiritual and psychological depths of human experience.

Her process is both additive and subtractive — a physical dialogue with the surface in which layers of pigment are built up, scraped back, and reworked over time. This labour-intensive method of layering paint and scraping back reveals a sense of memory and impermanence, as if stories are being unearthed, dissolved, and rewritten within each piece.

'I have always been compelled to create art. As a child, I drew, painted and danced from the womb. Art is an extension of that energy and energetic release into adulthood, that many of us forget. I view my work as an interpretation of my attempts to understand life and the world and as a bridge to spiritual solitude. I have something within me that has to create'

About the artist cont...

Through her expressive use of colour and texture, Treble seeks to articulate the inexpressible: the interior states, fleeting emotions, and spiritual resonances that resist language. Her paintings do not depict but evoke — inviting the viewer to pause, feel, and enter into a contemplative space.

In a world saturated with imagery and constant content, she turns to the traditional medium of oil painting to create a space of stillness and reflection. Through her striking use of colour and marks as a form of therapy, she strips back representational imagery to focus on the essence of colour and gesture. Her work invites the viewer to pause, to feel, and to experience the immediacy of emotion through mark-making — anchoring us in the present moment.

K A Treble is a member of the WAAW collective (Women Artists Around the World), representing artists across London and the South East.

She is also the founder of Kati Kaia, artistry-led wellbeing brand that blends creative expression with mindful living. Her work has been featured in a range of exhibitions, publications, and is held in private collections in the UK and internationally.

Artist Bio

Born in Hong Kong to an English father and Australian mother, Kati spent her formative years in the verdant surroundings of Shouson Hill and Deep Water Bay. Her early connection to nature, travel, and diverse cultural influences — from Asia to Australia and the UK — helped shape a lifelong exploration of earth, spirit, and expression through movement and marks. These foundational experiences continue to inform the intuitive, elemental nature of her work.

Kati’s career began in fashion design, moving to New York at the age of 19, where she worked under renowned designer Diane von Furstenberg. She later studied womenswear at the renowned Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication and pursued further study at the University of the Arts London.

Before fully dedicating herself to painting, Kati built a successful career as a designer, working with leading luxury labels and global brands across London, New York, and Asia. Her work in fashion honed her sensibility for colour, form, and texture — qualities that now underpin her abstract visual language.

Since relocating from Brixton to Surrey in 2016, she has focused on expanding her studio practice, alongside her brand, Kati Kaia. She is a member of Lockwood Arts in Surrey and the WAAW (Women Artists Around the World) collective, and continues to exhibit and grow her work, which is held in private collections and has been featured in both independent and international publications.
